Stonehenge Wiltshire No 22
Stonehenge, situated on Salisbury Plain, nine miles from Salsbury, is the finest example of a megalithic stone circle in England, and probably dates from 1700 B.C.
It origionally consisted of a circle of stones enclosing two horseshoes of stone and a center "Slaughter Stone" From the latter the rising point on the horizon of the sun at the Summer Solstice is marked by a stone, outside the circle, known as the Hele Stone.
