This Firth Series postcard is a good example of an early fake showing an idealized turn of the century view of Stonehenge. On New Years Eve 1900 the stones highlighted were blown down in a storm and it was not until Summer 1901 that the other highlighted stone was put upright during the first modern restoration attempt. This twist in time makes this image an obvious fake.
I also include here an early pre-1901 Firth postcard showing an accurate view, along with a correct post-1901 example.
The last example presented here is a popular Firth postcard showing a WWI vintage airplane flying over Firth's idealistic view of Stonehenge. What do you want to bet, this too was faked. Sadly it was a very popular card.
