This Stonehenge Magic Lantern Slide shows three people, one of which is a photographer, photographing the photographer taking this picture.
Based on the angle of the stones this image was taken between 1875 and when the work restoration work started in 1901.
Purchased in an auction lot of 4 slides picturing:
An old Farmer and young children feeding chickens.
A commercial slide Entitled: Catterina FROM LIFE MODEL #33 "With unconscious imitation of her father's tone, the child began "
Very early Photograph of people at Stonehenge.
Early photograph of people carrying wood piles in a country lane.
These slides arrived in a vintage box of Gravures Lantern Plates, produced by Paget Prize Plate Company, Limited of Watford England.
Founded in 1881 by W.J. Wilson and T.C. Whitfield. The name comes from a prize offered by Joseph Paget in 1880 for the best dry plate process which was won by Wilson.
Paget Company patented a color process in 1912 and in the early 1920's was merged into the Ilford film company. A little online research relieved the fact that Paget Prize Plate Company did not become a Limited until 1901, about the same time Stonehenge moved into the most resent period of modern history marked by the storm damaged New Years Eve 1900 prompting the repair projects performed in the name of public safety that began in 1901.
