This real photo postcard was taken Aug 1912 at Larkhill. It shows Samuel Frankin Cody the winner of a 5,000 pound award from the first Military Air Trials, it is believed to be inscribed shortly after Cody's death in 1913 by what appears to have been a friend.
Inscription on card reads:
It is with deep sorrow I have to inform you of the demise of that fine and brave aviator Mr. S. F. Cody
after many important flights he was killed in an accident when flying over Laffans Plain.
Where he had [performed?] much of his work. We will miss him greatly.
